For anyone that is about to have this repair, from my own experience dr. told me to not drink soda. Into day three post surgery I felt horrible I didn't feel like eating couldn't sleep my back hurt so I had my mom get me an A&W Rootbeer. I drank approx half a glass and within a half hour I was able to release gas three or four good times and within 2 hours I was able to have the first bowel movement. The relief from both greatly improved. I was able to eat and slept alot better. The next day I felt even better.
